Bill: I just recently signed up for classmates.com and got an
email from Jerry Zeiger telling me of your web site. I spent some
time looking at the pictures. The pictures of the dorm (I believe
it was named "Fred") were a shock. It was also pretty
sad to find out who had passed away. I guess I let myself get out
of touch yet I think about the New Division a lot. I was amazed
to see the photograph of the Jacobs family, especially since I
have a duplicate. The last time I saw them was in 1972 when the
Navy took me to Lima. Once I start thinking about those times,
the memories flood back. (I have been gifted with a pretty good
memory). Things have gone well for me. I still live in San Diego
and cannot think of a better place to live. I have been a lawyer
for 25 years, and am certified as a Family Law Specialist (big
words to say I am a divorce lawyer). I have managed to get myself
pretty well established in my field. I have never gotten married
and being a divorce lawyer doesn't make me want to. Many
people cannot understand it but I am very happy in my very
tranquil home life, as opposed to the wild life I have each day
at the office. I am certainly not as thin as I used to be, but I
had a lot of room to expand. My hair is now grey moving quickly
into white, but I still have it. I manage to get in a few road
trips and have had a lot of fun photographing ghost towns,
castles, California Missions, and surfing. (That and many other
things that catch my fancy). I am as conservative as I always
was. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, I was pretty
controversial in San Diego because of my political activities. I
have not been as active recently, though I still am quite
involved, as I have to attend to business. God has really been
good to me, I have essentially no health issues to think about. I
am able to do the things I really want to do. I am quite
interested in what has been happening with you and the others.
The only one I have stayed in touch with is Norm Ross as we still
exchange Christmas cards. I was in contact with Art Webster a
decade or so ago when he was living in Carlsbad, just up the
road. He decided to head off to Mexico and that was the last I
heard of him. I hope all is well with you and I often recall the
stir you and I would cause as partners in our project in Peru.
How many times did we have to show i.d. before they would believe
that we carried the last names of the sitting and former
president. Once the Peruvians confirmed our names they would
usually say: "My name is Belaunde" who you may recall
was President then, until he was ousted six months later.
Always, Stanwood
